a pride and prejudice affair

How to throw the classiest Pride and Prejudice theme party

First of all, find yourself a bestie who’s favorite flick is Pride and Prejudice. Even if you’re not a fan of the story, the cinematography of that movie is impeccable and it is, undeniably, very visually stunning. We recycled all the wine bottles to use as candle holders, and it was honestly, the best sacrifice I’ve ever had to do.

It’s all in the details! We thrifted a mirror, spray painted it gold, and wrote our welcome sign on it with a white sharpie, with a quote that applied to a long distance relationship such as this one. (Don’t panic, the writing can be removed with acetone) We filled our empty wine bottles with some water to give them some extra weight, and added some greenery from our garden inside. We then added a long taper candle on top for that 1800’s vibe. I had some extra wooden boards from a previous project that I drew on with a blue pen, scenes from the Pride and Prejudice book and covered in resin. We then washed those very well, and served finger foods on them. We bought disposable fancy plates and cutlery, and even disposable flutes. All our guests brought their favorite bottle of wine for everyone to try, so there was plenty of wine to go around. The photo booth was made from a $10 wooden slate from Home depot, spray painted white, and some wooden trim from Amazon, spray painted gold. Super simple, but the finishing look was theme worthy. The picture frame was thrifted and a piece of art was photoshopped to contain the bride and the groom’s face. They loved this detail by the way.

All the guests arrived 30 minutes before our Bride did, and we even had some guests on zoom. We showed her around the whole house and she was pleased with our set up.

We had games for our guests to play and prizes to go along with them that encouraged our guests to get to know one another. But first, we eat!

After we were all satisfied from eating, the game playing begun. We had 5 games in total, each with a prize. The famous “He said She said” game had a fun twist. We recorded the bride and groom saying their answers and played the videos for the guests to view. This helped a lot with the guests we had through zoom.

After dinner, it was time for something spicy! The Bride showed off her spicy and not so spicy gifts to all her guests.

Afterwards, it was time to take photos in the booth!

Lastly, the Bride let us have cake! An attempt was made to have the cake look like the Pemberly style homes on that era.

It was a white chocolate rasberry cheese cake! Despite of it’s presentation, it was delish!

And that’s how you throw a Pride and Prejudice theme bachelorette party! Thanks for reading! Hope you guys enjoyed it.

Colorado....We see you.

With March being right around the corner, I wanted to share some of our most picturesque photos from our second anniversary trip to Denver on March 2018. Those mountains and the hot springs have certainly left an impression on us and we are dying to go back!

Maybe through our photos we can convince you to take a quick trip to Colorado!

We only had 4 days in Colorado, therefore we knew we had to set a schedule in order to see all we wanted to see. Once we arrived at the airport, we rented a KIA with a 4-wheel drive (Extremely IMPORTANT when driving on icy roads) and off we rode!

Our first pit stop was the Red Rocks Amphitheater! This natural rock structure is host to many concerts throughout the year. The air feels very thin up there, but surprisingly, it didn’t have an effect on Danny at all.

Though we can typically go out for a light jog and hold a conversation, I wasn’t able to walk and talk at the same time! So you guys can imagine just how much I struggled to climb to the top of the theater.

We spotted wildlife all over the mountains, but we got to see a deer up close. He (or she, I’m no expert) didn’t seem scared or bothered by human presence. Red Rocks has a tiny gift shop along with a very impressive gallery of fossils found in the area and all the stars that have played their songs in their stage!

The next day, we decided to drive 4 hours to a little town called Steamboats. It’s just so quaint and peaceful there. I believe we stayed in the only hotel available for the whole town! Not a lot to do there, with the exception of the BBQ restaurant 5 minutes from our hotel. That didn’t bother us, since we were only there for one night and our reason for visiting was to take a dip on one of the most beautiful and untouched natural hot springs in Colorado.

The drive up the side of the mountain was a little scary, not going to lie. We had snow tires on our car and they still skid while going uphill. We were going less than 10 miles an hour and we were still terrified, but the destination was well worth it!

The next day, we drove to another small town named Dillon and visited an Ice Castle! (Queen Elsa included). Since we had to wait till our time slot to enter the park, we decided to do an impromptu photoshoot, complete with having to change in the car, but it was all worth it since those photos turned out to be some of our favorite pictures to date. We found a park with a huge frozen lake and mountains in the back and we knew this had to be place for our yearly anniversary photos.

The Ice Castle was worth the wait! Pictures don’t do it justice, it was so beautiful and bright and clean! I enjoyed it so much!

Our last day in Colorado was actually spent in Denver. I loved how clean the city is, and how it made us feel like we visited another time period. We say this because they have bikes all over the city that don’t require a credit card to rent, they’re not even locked! People simply use them and return them to where they need to be. The highlight of our last day was a visit to the Molly Brown house. She was famously portrayed in the Hollywood movie Titanic as the woman who lends a fancy suit to Leonardo DiCaprio.

We were surprised at how modern this home seemed to be. They enjoyed running water, and even had an icebox (or refrigerator) with a very fancy wooden door.

After the Molly Brown house, we explored Denver for a bit and tried their home-made ice cream.

Colorado, you are gorgeous and I love your tempered winters and proud mountains. I will most definitely go see you again!

The End!

Behind the Scenes!

We are extremely thankful for our friends and all the work they do for us behind the scenes to get that PERFECT shot, but Danny takes his job as a second shooter and director very seriously!

You’ll see what I mean when you see the following photos.

What goes on…

BEHIND THE CAMERA.

We love spontaneous and natural photographs that make it seem as if our clients are completely unaware that there is a photographer in their midst capturing their special moments. It is in these moments when Danny comes to the rescue to coach our girls in walking so that we avoid those awkward in-between-step photos.

At times, it can become quite difficult to explain to our couples how to show more warmth towards each other, therefore, Danny finds it necessary to SHOW how to pose in these instances.

Many of our clients don’t have the confidence to feel comfortable in front of the camera and may need a little push or music to get inspired. Danny makes sure to give them that little ego boost they need to feel like rock stars.

I can’t possibly finish this post without recognizing that our besties also help us a ton during some photo shoots. Here are a few photos that show how Abelito, Esli, and Eric have helped the Time Traveler and I capture some great shots!

How to Make a Paper Portrait!

Making paper portraits is easy! Though I describe it as easy, it is very tedious and time consuming, therefore, if you don’t want to make one yourself, visit my shop and buy one instead. If you’d like to make one yourself, this blog post will walk you through my process.

Let’s get started!

ALWAYS PLAN YOUR PORTRAIT BEFORE YOU START

Decide on a size

Once you’ve chosen a size…

Start by drawing out the clothes of your people keeping in mind the final size

As you continue making the clothes for every person in your portrait, keep in mind the size and use your starting piece as a reference when making clothes.

MAKE A BACKGROUND!!

This is where you get to be super creative. Sometimes, I use paper to make the backdrop as well, and other times, I’ll leave a blank backdrop. On this instance, I wanted to use my watercolor paints!

I went ahead and painted some bushes and a brick wall, since that’s the background that was on the picture I was given. I took the liberty of making a watercolor and sharpie banner to insert the family’s last name.

This is what the paper portrait looks like once it’s all completed.
