We took a family photo trip back in November and IT. WAS. MEMORABLE! It was truly amazing. The weather, the food, (OMG THE FOOD!), the views, the people, the energy!
Not only did I enjoy it because I got to spend time with my parents after not seeing them for years, but we visited Bethel and met some wonderful people. It was an amazing trip, and it didn’t break the bank.
Our first day, we went to the Zocalo, which is like their main plaza in the historical center. Of course, we ate corn on the cob and visited an expo in which we bought many typical embroidered blouses for our friends. Watching the ladies weave them was an exceptional experience all on its own.
We ate at one of their many rooftop restaurants that made us feel like we were somewhere in Europe.
We spent a day in Bethel. We hitched a ride with a sister in her truck. I was fortunate enough to ride inside the truck while all the men had to ride in the back in their suits. It was a long-ish ride, but it was worth it to see a small piece of Texcoco that proudly showed why we display Jehovah’s name. Bethel and the rest of the town was like night and day. We learned so much about the printing process and all the hard work that goes into printing just one book. Also, not all the printed books make the cut. They have to be perfect to be sent out to all of Mexico and Central America. At the end of the tour, we picked up tracts and books in the native language of Danny’s grandparents to bring back to show to my in-laws. We met brothers and sisters from very distant places dressed in their typical folkloric clothing. We were left speechless by the organization, the love and how beautiful it is to be a part of something so big, bold, and amazing.
We visited many places in CDMX, and ate so much corn on the cob. By the way, the white maize corn is definitely the best. We ate in many small restaurants which literally fed our entire family for under 15 dollars! I was amazed by all the artisan work sold everywhere in CDMX.
The Sun Pyramid of Teotihuacan will leave you at a loss of words. My only complaint was that the air is too thin up there, and the steps were really steep, therefore it felt like you were squatting every time you climbed up one step. The struggle was worth it, the view from up there is incomparable.
Mexico is so beautiful and I can’t wait to see more of it in the future. If you can travel to Mexico, I recommend it! You will not be disappointed.
